Goodbye Lindsays

We said goodbye to our dear friends, the Lindsays. We love them!  As one of our
senior couples in the Baguio Mission, they have been such a help to us and the members
in Mapandan and Mangaldan Districts.  President Lindsay served as 1st Counselor in
the Mission Presidency and interviewed many members for temple recommends.
Sister Lindsay taught several sisters how to play the piano. Those sisters will teach others
in their familes and branches.  There are so many experiences that demonstrate their love
and service for others during their mission. The Lindsays are examples of true discipleship.
We thank them for their faithful service. They will be missed!

On the Road Again

Some of you are too young to remember the TV show "The Addams Family,"
but for those of you who have seen it.....remember the character, "Cousin Itt?"
This is Cousin Itt's tryke driver.  We spotted this vehicle driving on the side of
the road and it was definitely worth a good laugh!

One morning we were behind this small trailer.  As we got closer, we
could see they had crammed several large carabao (Filipino oxen) into
the trailer. You can see a set of horns in the upper right of the trailer.

I loved the "bumper sticker" on the back of this jeepney...
Families Forever! It is very common to see references to
families and God on the back of jeepneys, trykes and buses.

Zone Interviews

We've been traveling throughout the Baguio Mission for zone interviews during
the past two weeks.  We will see three zones this week and will finish on Friday in
the Baguio Zone. Every couple of months, we spend one day with the missionaries
in each of our nine zones.  It takes us nine days--three zones each week.  With each
zone, President Monahan speaks to the missionaries, then I speak and the rest of
the time is given to the zone leaders and assistants to train and conduct role plays
with the missionaries. During this training, President invites one missionary at
a time for a personal interviewIn this picture, the Assistants, Elders Mayes
and Tolman, are beginning their training in Agoo Zone.

Elder Machen, in Agoo Zone, shared an experience with his fellow missionaries.

I love the beautiful scenery on the way to our interviews in San Fernando La Union, or as we call it-- SFLU.  These pictures are of the South China Sea.  The beaches here are narrow. There are trees, bushes, houses and roads close to the water.

October Senior Couple Luncheon

(L-R) President and Sister Franco (2nd Counselor in the Mission Presidency),
Elder and Sister Fullmer (Aringay), Elder and Sister Mortimer (ERC), President
and Sister Lindsay (1st Counselor in the Mission Presidency), President and
Sister Monahan, Elder and Sister Engels (office couple), and President and
Sister Stamps (Urbiztondo Branch President). Once a month we get together at
the mission home with all of our couples in the mission. We have a potluck lunch,
then have a family home evening activity. This month, the Lindsays shared a slide
presentation of their mission to Egypt in 2008-2009.  It was so wonderful to hear
about their experiences and see pictures of the great things they helped accomplish
as they fulfilled their humanitarian mission in Egypt. The Lindsays return home at
the end of October.  We love them so much and will truly miss them!
